We recommend that you purchase a travel protection plan from an insurance provider to help protect you and your travel investment against the unexpected.

Travel protection plans can include coverage for Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Emergency Medical and Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation, Trip Delay, Baggage Delay and more.

Please Note: One insurance provider is Travelex. For Travelex insurance, to be eligible for the waiver of pre-existing medical condition exclusion, the protection plan must be purchased within 15 days (Travel Basic) or 21 days (Travel Select) from the time you make your initial trip deposit.

However, the plan can be purchased any time prior to departure.

The product descriptions provided here are only brief summaries. The full coverage terms and details, including limitations and exclusions, are contained in the insurance policy.

Contact Travelex Insurance Company for details

  • Deposits are non-refundable
  • 100% refund of balance before January 10
  • 50% refund of balance before February 10.
  • 25% refund of balance before March 10.
  • After March 10 no refunds can be issued.

This refund policy ensures that the trip can continue if some people cancel. Different refund policies apply to the people who transferred their payments from the 2020 to the 2021 Tour. These tour participants were sent these policies by e-mail.

Cancellations must be made  by e-mail to mbeaufort@miu.edu, and you must receive a response from Matthew verifying your request.
We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance to protect your investment. (See the relevant tab on this page).

Please note: In the event the tour must be postponed or cancelled due to uncontrollable factors like a pandemic, it may be necessary to retain the deposit to pay for non-recoverable expenses that have already been incurred.

AIR TRAVEL
Participants will make their own air arrangements, so everyone can get the flights and seating class they desire. Professor Beaufort is happy to advise and coordinate (mbeaufort@mum.edu).

You must arrive at the Rome Fiumicino airport early enough on May 24 so you have time to go through customs and pick up your luggage to be ready to leave on the transfer bus at 10 am from the airport. People who miss the bus will have to make and pay for their own arrangements to get to the hotel in Maremma.

To catch the free transfer bus we recommend that you arrive at the Rome Fiumicino Airport before 8 am.

Please note luggage restrictions: Guests are permitted one suitcase per person and a small personal bag (not a carryon with wheels).

EXPECT WALKING
Many of the tours’ destinations do not permit motorized vehicles in the historic centers. You should expect substantial walking, often on uneven surfaces and up or down steep inclines and stairs. People requiring assistance must have a travel companion who is fully capable and responsible for providing assistance.

GRATUITIES
It is customary to reward good service. Especially for tour escorts, waiters, guides, drivers and porters. Their jobs are seasonal and they depend on gratuities. Please extend driver and guide gratuities on the last day of their service.
